My friend, I'm so glad you're here! Today I've spun up brand new instance from DigitalOcean and Linode and did some benchmarking. Each instance was spun up with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS x64 and were created in or around the New York / New Jersey area. Let's get into the numbers.

Conclusion
After analyzing the benchmark results for both DigitalOcean's Regular (1 GB) and Linode's Nanode (1 GB) instances, it's clear that each has its own strengths and performance characteristics. The DigitalOcean instance excels with higher Redis request rates per second and lower latencies across various Redis operations, indicating superior performance in memory-intensive tasks. It also shows better CPU and file I/O performance, making it a strong choice for CPU-bound and I/O-heavy workloads. Conversely, the Linode instance, powered by an AMD EPYC 7601 processor, demonstrates slightly higher throughput in file I/O operations and better MySQL performance in bulk inserts and OLTP operations, suggesting it might be better suited for workloads that benefit from higher throughput and more complex database operations. Given the benchmarks, DigitalOcean's instance is ideal for applications requiring high Redis performance, while Linode's instance is better for scenarios needing robust file I/O and complex database interactions.
