My friend, I'm so glad you're here! Today I've spun up some brand new instance from DigitalOcean and Vultr to run some benchmarks on. All instances were spun up with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS x64 and were created in the New York area (or close to it). Without further ado, here's the results.

Conclusion

From the friendly robots:

The Vultr High Performance AMD instance with 2 cores and 2 GB RAM significantly outperforms the DigitalOcean Premium AMD instance with 1 core and 2 GB RAM across various benchmarks. Vultr's instance demonstrates superior Redis performance, with notably higher requests per second and lower latency across most commands. CPU benchmarks also favor Vultr, with substantially higher events per second and better overall throughput. File I/O and memory benchmarks reflect similar advantages for Vultr, showing faster read and write operations and lower latencies. For users prioritizing multi-core processing and overall throughput for tasks like database operations and web serving, the Vultr instance is the better choice. Conversely, if lower latency and simplicity are preferred, especially for single-threaded workloads, the DigitalOcean instance might be more suitable.
