Same showdown, different day. Today I've spun up some brand new instance from DigitalOcean and Vultr and ran some benchmarks. Each instance was spun up with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS x64 and were created in or around the New York / New Jersey area. Time to see who showed up today.

Conclusion

From the friendly robots:

In comparing the benchmarks for the DigitalOcean Premium Intel (1 GB) instance and the Vultr High Performance AMD (2 GB, 2 cores) instance, it is clear that the DigitalOcean instance excels in high-throughput Redis operations, delivering consistently high requests per second with low latency across a variety of commands. In contrast, the Vultr instance, despite having more CPU cores and memory, shows slightly lower Redis performance but has superior CPU performance metrics and higher throughput in file I/O operations. For CPU-intensive or memory-heavy workloads, the Vultr instance appears more suitable due to its multi-core processing and enhanced I/O capabilities. Conversely, if high Redis throughput and lower latency are paramount, the DigitalOcean instance would be the preferred choice. Both instances provide robust performance, but their strengths lie in different areas depending on the specific use case requirements.
