DigitalOcean Premium Intel (2 GB) vs. DigitalOcean Premium Intel (8 GB, 4 Cores)

vs.

Fresh benchmarks coming at ya. Today I've spun up brand new instance from DigitalOcean and did some benchmarking. All instances were spun up with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS x64 and were created in the New York area (or close to it). Time to see who showed up today.

Conclusion

From the friendly robots:

Upon analyzing the benchmarks of the two DigitalOcean instances, it's clear that the Premium Intel (8 GB, 4 Cores) instance outperforms the Premium Intel (2 GB) in almost all metrics, reflecting its higher CPU power, memory capacity, and overall throughput. The 4-core, 8-GB variant demonstrates superior performance in CPU-intensive tasks, memory operations, file I/O, and database benchmarks, including higher requests per second and lower latencies across various tests, suggesting it is well-suited for demanding applications such as high-concurrency web services, data processing pipelines, and large-scale databases. The 2-GB instance, while still performing adequately, lags behind in multi-threaded and memory-heavy workloads, making it more appropriate for lighter tasks or as a development/testing environment where cost is a primary concern.
