Welcome to another round of the VPS Showdown. Today I've spun up brand new instance from Linode and Vultr and ran my world famous suite of benchmarking scripts. All instances were running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS x64 and were created in the New York area (or close to it). Enough talk. Here's the data.

Conclusion

From the friendly robots:

The Linode 4 GB instance offers higher CPU performance with a dual-core AMD EPYC processor and substantially more RAM, which translates to superior Redis throughput and latency across various commands, alongside higher CPU, memory, and file I/O performance. In contrast, the Vultr High Performance AMD instance, with a single-core AMD EPYC processor, performs moderately in benchmarks but still shows robust Redis throughput and slightly lower but acceptable CPU and file I/O performance. For CPU-intensive and I/O-heavy workloads, the Linode instance is clearly superior; however, if budget and a slightly lower-end CPU are priorities, the Vultr instance offers decent performance for the price.
