What the providers shipped
October 2023 saw DigitalOcean plodding ahead with its Container Registry making a splash in Bangalore (BLR1), while backup retention stuck at the useless four weeks after deletion remains unchanged. The automatic upgrade to drop PostgreSQL 11 feels a bit like a mild inconvenience, especially when Ubuntu 22 is now the default stack on the App Platform, but at least they're moving forward (finally). Meanwhile, UpCloud unceremoniously retired its Ubuntu 18 template due to end-of-life pressures, and unceremoniously launched Managed Databases for OpenSearch with a two-week free trial, because who doesn't want to dabble with their database management for a fortnight? It’s all business as usual, really, for the providers catering to the ever-evolving needs of developers.
