What the providers shipped

DigitalOcean's December move to deprecate the Ubuntu-18 stack in favor of Ubuntu-22 on their App Platform makes you wonder if they're ever going to catch up to the rest of the industry, but at least the buildpacks got a refresh. Meanwhile, Linode is busy pushing yet another minor Kubernetes Engine version update, v1.57.0, which is as underwhelming as it sounds, and they've also introduced scalable DB storage & Kafka topics for PostgreSQL/MySQL, because apparently adding compute resources is all that matters when you’re in the market. The compute features feel like they're being dragged through molasses, and you can't help but think, "when will they actually bring in anything groundbreaking?"
