What the providers shipped
In March 2025, DigitalOcean finally gave us what we've been waiting for, albeit with a bit of a delay: regional TCP/UDP network load balancers generally available. Meanwhile, they've thrown in an array of GPU options, including those L40S behemoths for 1,000-node clusters, and a storage-optimized plan for MySQL and PostgreSQL, because who doesn't need more storage for their databases? Linode added encryption to its Block Storage, a feature we all thought would arrive yesterday, and UpCloud rolled out advanced features for its SDN Private Networks. If nothing else, it’s clear that the cloud is only as good as its networking, storage, and security features—though why anyone would pay extra for a feature that's clearly reserved for DigitalOcean's internal use remains a bit of a mystery.
