What the providers shipped

In April 2025, DigitalOcean finally finished rolling out its long-overdue Cluster autoscaler GA (finally), but their App Platform now integrates Managed Valkey databases, which is mildly useful if you’re not already knee-deep in Redis. Meanwhile, their Partner Network Connect is now generally available, making Kubernetes cluster traffic a breeze (or so they claim). On the other hand, Linode’s new Accelerated plans look like they’re trying a bit too hard to compete with the beefy GPU plans of yore, which may not exactly be a boon for the average developer. UpCloud keeps cranking on its usual hardware spiel, introducing an object storage file manager and beefing up their Frankfurt & Warsaw regions with shiny new AMD EPYC Turin processors for a sweet 30-40% performance gain—if you’re not already running custom builds, this might not matter much to you.
