What the providers shipped
May 2025’s offerings in the VPS space had the usual mix of the groundbreaking and the overdue. DigitalOcean, ever eager to push the envelope, rolled out its Spaces CDN logs in public preview, enabling easier CDN log generation with Terraform, and threw in an App Platform feature to disable CDN cache for those who prefer their own. The company also announced that payment method won’t be required upfront, a minor but welcome change, and upgraded its App Platform with a liveness probe to keep apps running smoother. And, for the GPU enthusiasts, the RTX 4000/6000 Ada GPUs have landed in the mix, giving those with deep pockets another reason to guzzle their cloud compute dollars. Meanwhile, Linode improved its Managed Databases and added support for disk encryption—finally delivering on security features that were long due. UpCloud kept it simple with on-demand scaling for managed databases and bumped Kubernetes up to v1.31, ensuring it stays in the game for those running container orchestration workloads. None of these updates are revolutionary, but for developers with specific use cases, they bring some much-needed fine-tuning and new options.
