Provider news · June 2025

What the providers shipped

June 2025 was a busy month for the VPS providers, though it was mostly about overdue features and unnecessary GPU overkill. DigitalOcean finally made Ubuntu 20.04 end-of-life as expected, but also had more fluff with the GA of DOKS routing agent, and AMD Instinct MI300X GPUs that will probably just gather dust at the entry level. Linode rolled out the long-awaited enterprise Kubernetes offering and some VPC changes, while UpCloud launched its free "Essentials" plan — which is like getting a free lunch that's almost all the tools you need but without any of the data transfer. Meanwhile, Vultr continued to overdo the GPU plans and managed Kafka, adding little but not much to the toolbox for developers.
