DigitalOcean Regular (2 GB) vs. Vultr Cloud Compute (2 GB)

vs.

My friend, I'm so glad you're here! Today I've spun up some brand new instance from DigitalOcean and Vultr and ran my world famous suite of benchmarking scripts. Each instance was running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS x64 and were created in the New York area (or close to it). Enough talk. Here's the data.

Conclusion

From the friendly robots:

Both the DigitalOcean Regular (2 GB) and Vultr Cloud Compute (2 GB) instances show strong Redis performance, with DigitalOcean outperforming slightly in most benchmarks, especially in operations per second and latency metrics. Vultr's CPU benchmarks indicate a slightly higher clock speed and more robust cache size, suggesting it might handle CPU-intensive tasks better. However, DigitalOcean edges out in terms of file I/O performance and MySQL benchmarks, offering lower latency and higher throughput. Given these metrics, DigitalOcean would be ideal for workloads that benefit from better I/O performance and MySQL operations, whereas Vultr may be more suitable for CPU-intensive tasks despite having a similar configuration.
