Provider news · April 2024
What the providers shipped
April was a mildly underwhelming month in the VPS world, with DigitalOcean adding dedicated egress IPs for their App Platform and daily backups in Singapore (finally catching up, I suppose) but also yanking API access for billers on shared resources and insisting on write scopes for Kubernetes tokens—not exactly a user-friendly move. Meanwhile, UpCloud quietly added a new Ubuntu 24.04 LTS template with Kernel 6.8 and introduced no-cost AES-256 encryption for block storage, which is a sensible touch. For those who actually need it, that's something; for the rest of us, it's just more of the same.
