What the providers shipped

June's tech tea from VPS Showdown: DigitalOcean struts in with DOKS control plane firewalls (early) and a bunch of other features that sound fancy but are mostly smoke and mirrors. The real kicker is the App Platform's Kafka integration in beta—finally a nod to enterprise needs. Meanwhile, Linode keeps refining LKE, which is as exciting as watching paint dry but necessary for the Kubernetes faithful. UpCloud, on the other hand, reached end-of-life on Kubernetes 1.27, which sounds like a party nobody’s crashing but is actually a bit of a downer for those clinging to outdated clusters. Oh, and beta VPN Gateways—because nothing screams "cutting edge" like IPsec connections in a test phase.
