Provider news · August 2024
What the providers shipped
In August 2024, DigitalOcean quietly expanded the volume attach limit on both its DOKS and Droplet plans to 15, finally catching up with competitors in the Kubernetes arena, while also rolling out app deployment via GitHub Actions and daily backups in FRA1. Meanwhile, UpCloud released a more budget-friendly 2xCPU-2GB plan and introduced some long-overdue features like custom domain support for Object Storage and encryption-at-rest for its Managed Kubernetes, alongside flexible plan support for node groups. DigitalOcean's expansion to London with Spaces and its new predefined team roles sound good on paper, but if you're not deep into Kubernetes or object storage, it's hard to see the real impact. UpCloud, on the other hand, seems to be making a push towards more flexible, feature-rich offerings, which is a breath of fresh air.
