Provider news · September 2024

What the providers shipped

In September, DigitalOcean launched global load balancers and daily backups — not exactly groundbreaking but at least they're here (finally). Linode continued its slow march with Kubernetes v1.31 on LKE, while UpCloud doubled down on Kubernetes again with v1.29 and the usual developer tier shenanigans, now down to €3/month with ludicrously generous egress terms. Meanwhile, UpCloud's new block storage tiers offer a Standard option for a mere €0.085/GB/month, catering to those who think they need big compute but forget storage is also a thing. As usual, no one’s beating around the bush here, it's all the same old, same old.
