What the providers shipped

October 2024 saw DigitalOcean making some solid moves that might actually interest developers: event log forwarding to OpenSearch for DOKS, managed OpenSearch logs being GA, and HTTP/2 and HTTP/3 support at the edge. Also, VPC-native networking and VPC peering in early availability won’t go unnoticed. And because nobody cares about storage anymore, here’s object storage expanding to Toronto and daily backups in Bangalore. Linode, predictably, kept things behind schedule with VLAN deletion, limited block storage encryption, and Kubernetes Engine enhancements that feel like a stopgap rather than a solution. UpCloud's news was more about managed database services—Valkey, an open-source Redis alternative, is now available. Also, the release of VPN Gateways might appeal to those who need to connect SDN Private Networks externally. All in all, the market's still mostly about who can tick the most boxes without breaking the bank.
