What the providers shipped
January 2026 saw DigitalOcean adding.NET buildpack support for their App Platform, which is a minor but welcome upgrade. Per-second billing for their Droplets, at last, means pricing is more predictable—good luck with those tax hikes in Chicago and Kazakhstan, though. Linode quietly rolled out object storage metrics and audit logs, which is long overdue and a welcome but limited addition. UpCloud expanded with a new, shiny data center in Stavanger, promising no-svg1 and a 99.999% SLA, alongside making Kubernetes v1.34 available. Vultr cranked out a smorgasbord of features: from a massive increase in VFS file size limit to fixes in their VKE clusters and an upgraded GitLab Marketplace app. You'd think they'd leave well enough alone instead of overloading with too many GPU-related updates and telemetry monitoring.

- Jan 15 Chicago sales tax increase — Rate increased from 11% to 15%.

- Increased Vultr File System (VFS) File Size Limit — VFS max file size raised from 1 TB to 16 TB for larger datasets.
- Floating/Reserved IP & BGP Announcement Improvements — Re-architected prefix lists for faster IP announcements and more reliable BGP routing.
- NVIDIA DCGM Added to GPU Images — NVIDIA DCGM bundled in GPU images for health, performance, and telemetry monitoring.
- GitLab Marketplace App OS Upgrade — GitLab Marketplace app now runs on Ubuntu 24.04 (up from 22.04).
- VKE Cluster Autoscaler Fix — Fixed permissions issue blocking worker-node scaling with autoscaling enabled.
- VKE OIDC Deployment Fix — OIDC now supported on all VKE v1.34+ clusters for consistent authentication.
- RIR IRR Routing Update — Updated IRR route objects for Vultr prefixes to improve routing and reachability.
- Ubuntu 24.04 Added to Plesk Marketplace Apps — Ubuntu 24.04 LTS available across all Plesk Marketplace app tiers.
